Life’s Too Short To Go So F*cking Slow – Susan Lacke
Susan Lacke is a professor, writer, Ironman finisher, runner, and triathlete. Yup, I’m tired just thinking about it too. But she wasn’t always – she used to be a pack a day smoker with no interest in exercise. It all changed when she met her then boss, Carlos. They became friends and he brought her down the crazy path of distance sports. The book details the evolution of their relationship, their training rides together, and how knowing Carlos altered her life.
The book reads as if a good friend is telling you a story. Not just any story, but a story that will make you laugh and also cry on the subway on your way to work. Please, tell me I can’t be the only one. I caution you to make sure you’re in a private place with tissues and a glass of wine before you read the last few chapters. But it’s so worth the tears. You’ll feel inspired (or at least I sure did!) and so grateful for every amazing friend and/or mentor who has helped shape you into who you are today.
Even if you’re not (yet!) an athlete, this book speaks to everyone who has ever experienced the love of a best friend. It’s a quick read, and perfect for beach season. Just remember: be alone, or prepared to have people ask you why you’re bawling, when you read the end.
Check it out and make sure to follow Susan on Twitter to read other pieces she’s written and for her amazing sarcasm and sass.
