Merry Christmas and happy holidays!
This is a special time of year for a lot of us. Not only are there religious and cultural celebrations to honor but it’s also a time of giving and sharing that many of us have a hard time maintaining throughout the year.
It’s for this reason that Christmas is one of my favorite times of year. I find myself being extra aware of myself and my surroundings, taking note to be kind in sharing the simplest of things – from a smile to a stranger or tokens of affection with loved ones.
And let’s not forget the food! From cooking to indulging, the holiday season is a time where we all typically take some special moments to honor the food we consume and break bread with one another. I think that some of the best memories are made when experienced with food, right?
“Pull up a chair. Take a taste. Come join us. Life is so endlessly delicious.”
― Ruth Reichl
There can be a lot of expectations for this time of year, both that we have for ourselves and for one another. This year, try to be mindful not to force anything in particular. If you’re happy with the holiday, feel that. If it’s not a particularly happy time and you’re grieving or having to deal with toxic people around you, know that is normal. Those feelings will come and go like waves. No matter what, take care of yourself and do what you need to maintain the ever-changing idea of balance.
Happy holidays!
