Find A Way – Diana Nyad

Source: Goodreads

If you’ve never heard of Diana Nyad, she’s the definition of a badass. She’s an author, journalist, motivational speaker, and a long distance swimmer. By long distance swimmer, we REALLY mean long distance. She swam around Manhattan in 1975, which is 28 miles. If that wasn’t impressive enough, she became the first person to swim from Cuba to Florida without the aid of a shark cage. Yes, you heard right. She SWAM from CUBA to FLORIDA, otherwise known as 110 miles. Not only did she accomplish this absolutely amazing feat, but she did it at age 64, proving that you’re never too old to accomplish your goals. She epitomizes the word perseverance, as it took her five attempts before she finally reached the finish line she had been dreaming of.

The book details her life changing journey, as well as her personal struggles after being sexually abused. In the #MeToo era, it’s so important to hear from such an open, honest, and strong woman about how she moved forward after a horrific trauma.

This story made me laugh, cry, and feel immensely inspired.

It feels like you’re hearing a story from a good friend, rather than a writer you’ve never met. She’s genuine and vulnerable, and you’re instantly able to tell how much this goal really meant to her. She is beautifully appreciative of all the people who helped her get there, and it serves as a reminder to tell the people who help you how much you love them. It really does take a village, especially if you’re swimming across the Atlantic Ocean! I was so impacted by the book that I made a custom Momentum Jewelry wrap with the words “Find A Way” to get me through those tough runs and races.

If you’re looking for a quick and wonderful read that will leave you full of motivation to go out and conquer the world, pick up this book immediately. If you want to learn more about this extraordinary woman, you can check out her website

If she’s not running, you’ll find her planning the next time she’s going to eat, exploring all things wellness in NYC, or raising her stress level by watching her sports teams.
